Two FedEx packages being delivered from Texas to a Wolf Court, Elyria, home led to the arrest of a 27-year-old Elyria man on drug charges. A Summit County K-9 unit dogs sniffed the packages, which turned out to be two large bricks of marijuana and weighed a total of 34.8 pounds, according to an Elyria police report. |

Town police are reporting that a local man who took his four dogs for a walk Tuesday night in the woods at Clark Community Park on Schoolhouse Road became disoriented and could not find his way out. Sgt Kevin Roche said the park has many trails that fork in different directions and it is easy to become disoriented at night. |

Wagging his tail in the early morning chill, he ran under four Afghan tractor-trailer trucks, sniffing at the exhaust pipes and motor. He then jumped into the cabins, slipping behind the driver's seat and sticking his nose into the glove compartment. A driver's partially eaten snack was ignored. In less than 10 minutes, the trucks were cleared for entry to Tora Forward Operating Base in eastern Afghanistan, and Arry started barking for more. |

The incident started around 5:45 p.m. when a deputy arrived at a home in the 3000 block of 21st Street Court East, where neighbors told investigators they had heard glass breaking and a woman pleading not to be hit again. |

| Officers seize $267,000 of Marijuana at Port |

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers stopped a drug smuggling attempt when they seized about 119 pounds of marijuana concealed in the doors of a vehicle. On January 27 at about 5:30 p.m. CBP Officers at the Douglas Port of Entry were screening travelers and vehicles when they came in contact with a 23-year-old woman driving a 1996 Chevy Tahoe. The woman was identified as a Mexican National from Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico. The CBP Officers selected the vehicle for inspection. With the assistance of a special trained K-9 Team the vehicle was searched. It was discovered that the doors of the Tahoe were loaded with packages of marijuana. The total weight of marijuana was approximately 119 pounds with an estimated street value $267,000. |

A police dog bit a Goodview man on his buttocks Sunday morning when he refused to come out from hiding, Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand said. Dustin Lee Schewe, 21, was taken to Winona Health for treatment of his injuries after he was bit by Blitz, the sheriff's department's dog, at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Brand said. Sunday's incident is the second time this year a man has been bitten by a Winona K-9 dog after ignoring police warnings. The Winona police department's dog, Neko, bit a Goodview man on his arm. The man was hiding behind a propane tank. |
